"Little Dinghy"

The simplicity of this dinghy pulled up on the beach was what attracted me to paint this one.

"Little Dinghy", 8" x 10" oil on board, Frank Gardner © 2008
$720. Framed, available at Galeria Gardner

We had a wet finish to my week on Cape Cod. It cut down on some of our outdoor painting time, but it gave me a chance to make some slight adjustments on a few of the paintings back in the studio.
I completed nine paintings and had to sign and title them, get the frames all wired up and take some quick photos of the finished paintings. I left them all out there at my friend Jerome Greene's gallery in Dennis, so I had to have everything ready to leave with him on my way off the Cape.

  5. Thanks Christine. The seaweed and stones was the toughest part on this one. I wanted a solid block in with simple shapes. Seaweed does not really fit into that theory. I had painted more of it in one area, but later knocked it out. Was too distracting.
I need more time on the beach so I can work on that more :-)

It was a pretty productive week. I had hoped for a few more, but I am happy with what I painted.

  8. Beautiful the way you got the sunbleached, washed out look of a very simple singular image.
It's hard to do simple- this effectively.

Looking forward to seeing the rest of them. Sounds like it was a productive trip. Nine!

  11. Really a fine job, Frank! Making it look this easy is a very difficult task, as they say. Loads of "personality" in the dingy!

  19. Of all the recent boat pieces, this one stands out. I think it's as much to do with the scale of the subject (closer in) as with the fresh color and bravura paint handling.

    It's very charming!
